Priority Areas for Research and Testing

SunTrax Air is designed to tackle the most critical challenges standing between today’s AAM prototypes and tomorrow’s commercial fleet. FDOT has identified five priority research areas that will drive the facility’s work. These research areas will directly inform the Department’s statewide AAM planning, policy development, and deployment strategy.

Beyond testing individual aircraft, SunTrax Air is building the foundational knowledge base the entire AAM industry needs, including how AAM aircraft interact with existing aircraft
control systems and how we train the next generation of pilots and maintainers.

There are dedicated spaces within the campus designed specifically to grow and support Florida’s AAM workforce, ensuring that as the industry scales, Florida has the skilled professionals ready to sustain it. With each test flight and research project, SunTrax Air helps build Florida’s AAM transportation system.
