Florida’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Research and Development at SunTrax establishes Florida’s premier testing hub for air and ground transportation innovation, featuring dedicated airspace, intelligent transportation systems, and collaborative research facilities to advance eVTOL development, aerial highway operations, and workforce training for the future of AAM.

What is AAM?

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) brings a new way of moving people and goods using small aircraft that can take off and land from more places than traditional aircraft. Think of it as creating new travel options above our roads: shortening trips, flying over traffic, and connecting communities.

By leveraging vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, electric propulsion, and advanced navigation systems, AAM can bypass traditional ground constraints, helping to reduce congestion and travel times.

Although commonly called “air taxis,” AAM also encompasses other services such as
cargo delivery for challenging locations, emergency medical transport, and disaster response. AAM is not just a new layer of infrastructure; it provides the foundation for a transportation system that redefines how we move people and goods in the modern world. This evolving system is an important consideration for FDOT as the state prepares for next-generation transportation choices.

Discover the AAM Industry Blueprint

From vertiports to aerial highways, Florida is engineering the foundation for commercial Advanced Air Mobility. Backed by strategic investment and operational readiness, the state is positioning itself as the launchpad for the next era of transportation.

AAM is the future of transportation, and Florida is taking action to become the first state in the nation to have commercial AAM services.

Designated as Florida’s headquarters for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), and the nation’s first research and development facility dedicated to both surface and air transportation technology.

SunTrax Air is home to the nation’s first AAM Aerial Test Track, a milestone that puts Florida at the forefront of the
global race to commercialize advanced
air mobility.

SunTrax Air is designed to tackle the most critical challenges standing between today’s AAM prototypes & tomorrow’s commercial fleet.

Designed for organizations developing advanced mobility, aviation systems, and next generation transportation solutions.
